Studies indicate that the most important factor in determining investment results is your asset allocation. This is your strategy in selecting mutual fund categories in which to invest.

We use powerful software tools and consult with national asset allocation management firms to bring the most up-to-date and appropriate investment allocation designs to our clients. You can evaluate your risk tolerance and create a sample asset allocation by clicking here.

Next to asset allocation, your most important consideration is a plan of regular deposits. This is called dollar cost averaging. By investing the same amount on a regular basis whether the shares in the fund are currently at a high price or a low price, the effects of market swings are minimized. Since more shares are purchased when they are at a low price, the overall price per share may be reduced.1 To see an example of dollar cost averaging in a rising market, click here. 1. Dollar cost averaging does not assure a profit or protect against loss in a declining market. Such a plan involves continuous investment in securities regardless of fluctuating price levels, and an investor should consider his or her ability to continue purchases through periods of low price levels.
